| BC 'Conservative' leader Lorne Doerkson apologized after being pressed on why he denied making promises in a letter outlining proposed changes to ICBC’s no-fault insurance system and the Legal Professions Act.
“I suppose, I guess I apologize.”
What did Dorky's not public letter say? “everything’s on the table, including opening auto insurance to private competition.” That could double folk's insurance. The September 29, 2026 letter was sent to insurance and legal industry groups. When reporters asked, he said "there’s been no promises made by me at all".

The letter went to the vice-president of the Insurance Bureau of Canada, and the presidents of the Law Society of B.C., the Trial Lawyers Association of B.C., and the Canadian Bar Association. Doerkson said new legislation would be passed within a year of the Conservatives being elected.
 | Eby ... “I’m astonished how reckless, foolish, and shameful this secret deal is.” The Alberta example used is probably not the best. Compared to Ontario drivers, the bill for those in B.C. goes up 45% or more. The NDP website is https://doerksonsdeal.ca/ |
