Kelowna saw a population rise of 1.2% in 2025. The headcount came in at 254,605, up from 252,651. Growth is the lowest the region has seen since the 2010s. The 2021 census placed Kelowna as Canada’s fastest-growing city, a mantra embraced by Tom Dyas. That isn't true any longer and it is now a lie. Dyas singing 'high growth' to justify his spending is not true.

Kelowna mayor was paid $126,497 before Dyas. He instantly made it $145,200.

Dyas stands to collect $195k next year. The money for Dyas' raises comes from Dyas' tax increases. The tax increase of Dyas was 4.4% last year. The number for 2025 was 4.34%, following a 4.72% hike in 2024. The first budget under Dyas was a 3.78% hike. That is a 17.24% increase in taxes under Dyas in 4 years. Between 2022 and 2026, Kelowna’s municipal tax hike has been 22%. Tom Dyas called his increase of 4.4% for the current year 'fantastic' and 'amazing'.

The last budget of $1.1b+ is another new record.

The unemployment rate in Kelowna is 9.2%, the highest of any metro area of Canada. For youth the unemployment rate is 13.3%. Under Dyas, the City of Kelowna's payroll climbed 8% to $126.1 million in a single year. In 2025, 500 CUPE workers earned $75k or more, an increase of 94 from the previous year while those on the management side earning $100k or more nearly doubled from 109 in 2024 to 191 last year.

The full-time equivalent union workforce is up to 1,250 people. 900 unionized employees have received wage increases of 12.5% since 2023. Kelowna policing costs increased by 66% between 2020 and 2024. A similar increase is projected from 2026 to 2031. Property values have declined across the board, down 2%. Dyas is spending ever more as his taxpayer pie gets smaller. Against this backdrop, Dyas is a proven liar and has sold out residents to Khalistani interests. 4 years ago citizens were desperate to get rid of the disgraced Khalistani controlled Basran. Now they need to get rid of his uber good buddy Dyas, who has proven himself an even worse thief. Tom Dyas needs to go back to being a sous chef. Citizens trusting their money to the likes of Tom Dyas have been well proven to have made a serious mistake.

Denciti proposal - pickleball courts to cost millions

The I-2 'General Industrial' zone in Kelowna is designated for a variety of industrial uses, such as manufacturing, warehousing, and distribution. 1.68 acres is slated for pickleball courts. Assuming a price of $1.5m per acre, the land cost to taxpayers will be around $2.5m. It's entirely possible Dyas' pickleball courts steal alone will cost Kelowna taxpayers $4m.

------------------------------------------------ Two plaintiffs of the Kelowna Springs court challenge have bowed out. Susan Ames and David Buckna filed notices of discontinuance on June 29. The prospects of a 'David versus Golliath' senario and high legal costs has probably frightened them off.

Three plaintiffs remain attached to the legal challenge — Alexandra Wright, Randy Kozek and Lorel Pearce. Susan Ames is a previous candidate for council, losing in 2022. David Buckna is a prolific commentator and letter writer. Wright, Kozek and Pearce are seeking an injunction preventing the city from advancing the development application until the process of full disclosure of all material information occurs. Here.

Dyas has no public mandate to jam his reeking Kelowna Springs steal through in his final months as mayor. The disposition of the Kelowna Springs steal must be handled by the politicos who will replace Dyas and his cadre of thieves in 4 months. Dyas is a lame duck, and this we suggest is the reason why his masters want Kelowna Springs approved before the barking dog is de-elected.

That procedure reeked to high heaven as the interests of bums were served and those of Kelowna citizens ignored. "2. A declaration that the Respondent conducted the public hearing process in a manner contrary to the principles of procedural fairness and contrary to the requirements of the Local Government Act;" Mountains of technical information, critical to making a proper decision vis-a-vis flood zone planning, was only included at the 11th hour and wasn't attached. There was no opportunity to review that material by counsellors, some of whom had already been bought. NO rationale for the outrageous steal/land swap was ever offered by bureaucrats. How one justifies Kelowna taxpayers swapping useless land for industrial meant for their bus depot for 1/20th of its value wasn't touched.

Singh spoke out loudly for the need for more fruit pickers, saying too many cherries were left on the trees, unpicked. Coun. Wooldridge was falling over himself, saying the agriculture industry needs workers. Owners of Krazy Cherry Fruit Packers are Gary and Nimmi Bahniwal. They made headlines in 2020 when the close quarters in their prison resulted in a COVID-19 epicenter cluster. Migrant workers who were in isolation after contracting COVID-19 spoke of poor treatment and no food. "My boss was not kind," he said. "He seemed annoyed about bringing me food. And he kept yelling at me to clean the trailer, as if I didn't know that I had to do so." Krazy Cherry operations manager Harman Singh Bahniwal (harman@krazycherry.com) said it was all in their heads. He was an agent with Oakwyn Realty Okanagan.

On August 23, 2025 it was a $12,207 WorkSafe B.C fine. Krazy Cherry failed in its fight against a $7,000 fine issued by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency in 2019. Pests were discovered in their cherries and they sold them anyway.

Samples of crushed cherries are submerged in a bucket of brown sugar and water solution. They yielded three pests: two drosophila larvae and one rhagoletis pupa. As a result, that particular lot of cherries was not issued a certificate to be sent for trade. That didn't slow the Bahniwals down and the worm filled cherries went to Dubai.
