Kelowna Pickleballers call out asshole Dyas

A common theme with Tom Dyas and Denciti Development is the screaming need in Kelowna for Pickleball courts. Indeed, servicing Pickleballers is their rally cry for paving over Kelowna Springs. A letter published on Castanet explodes that false narrative.

"Most pickleballers do not support the (change at) 480 Penno Road. It would have severe consequences for the neighbouring farmers and everyone living along Mill Creek. Nothing is certain with the developer. The developer (Dencity) may supply the land and then (the city) would have to pay for construction of a (pickleball) building. Dencity’s offer is not free."

Volodya Gusak
"The association already allocates all the money it receives from their members. The pickleball association did not go to Dencity (to ask for a pickleball facility), Dencity went to it for its endorsement as a large group. Most of the players do not support this development on this land."

(pkcregistrar@gmail.com)

Garry Fawley
"Players from West Kelowna say 480 Penno Road is too far to travel. Do not destroy this green space in the hope of extra pickleball courts. Dencity may never build them. We have 5.6% industrial vacancy now and a supply for 36 to 56 years. Pickleball can be played anywhere. It is not too late to say no to the developer."

Another citizen's letter states; "I read two separate reports, one from the City of Kelowna and one from the Regional District of Central Okanagan. They both clearly indicate there is an industrial land surplus of 5.6% and rising, with a 36 to 56 year supply."

One should be impressed with the simple logic. Pickleball REQUIRES no specialized courts or buildings. An empty space of any description is perfectly fine. Since there is a virtually inexhaustible supply of that in Kelowna, it makes no sense to build a fixed pickleball court. To build one over irreplaceable greenspace when it clearly isn't needed is a sin. Tom Dyas, Volodya Gusak and Garry Fawley can go to hell.

Tom Dyas 'looks back on busy year'

There is something inherently annoying with Tom Dyas verbiage. His voice, his demeanor, his appearance. He comes across as a crooked used car dealer, and that isn't far from the truth. His insulting lies are constant.
Citizens of Kelowna are fed up with Tom Dyas as he leads them into a severe economic decline.

Kelowna vacancy rate near 7% - Unemployment 11%

Tom Dyas says the city is in 'uncharted territory' as the rental vacancy rate is 6.9%, the highest of any city in Canada. This goes with Kelowna's 11% unemployment rate, also the highest in Canada. Dyas's Kelowna is in economic freefall.
285 Dougall Road is a new rental build by Khalistani backed Troika Developments. Completed four months ago it is still half (or more) empty. This begs the question why a housing partnership between the City of Kelowna and Troika Developments for more terrible cheap quality, tiny wood frame shitbox condos is proceeding.

Troika applied for development permits for two city owned sites in Rutland and Glenmore. The city provides the land while Troika builds and manages the buildings. Projects are 129 wood frame units at Dougall Road North in Rutland, and 71 units on Glenmore Road. The vast majority are studio and one bedroom. The 'below-market' rental prices will be as follows:

Studio - $1,250
One bedroom - $1,660
Two Bedroom - $2,040
Three bedroom - $2,370
'Eligible renters' will need a combined household income between $80k and $120k to pay no more than 30% of their income. Once development permits are approved, Troika will seek building permits and begin construction. According to CMHC, 1,300 new rental units were added to the rental pool in Kelowna in 2025.
Kelowna citizens (unlike the corrupt Tom Dyas) aren't stupid. Their comments sum it up ...

"Dyas, pointing to several city programs and incentives"... The more government involvement there is, the more supply goes off kilter with demand. Governments should stick to their knitting.

"Mayor Dumba&& can pat himself on the back all he wants, people can see through his bull crap word salad."

"hey dyaas thousands of little studio shoe boxes for rent less than 300 square feet at a cost of $1700, where are all the Kelowna jobs to fill these low quality units?"

"cost of a 350 sqft shoe box that no one actually wants to live in, takes up their entire income for the rent, so it becomes a choice, do i want to eat, or have a safe place to sleep and live"

Maxine DeHart - Khalistani shill - update

Kelowna city councillors were eager to start their month-long Christmas break. For the second straight meeting, council deferred hearing a presentation from staff about ways in which city streets are being made safer. They decided they needed their vacation instead. Council was scheduled to meet Santa, and “That’s the most exciting thing today,” said Maxine DeHart. She invited councillors for free coffee on the Jhajj's dime at the Ramada Hotel. Over achieving council won’t meet again until January 12, 2026.
UBER tight up Tom Dyas anus is the over the hill, past her prime, Maxine DeHart. "Mayor Tom Dyas and I attended the URBA Holiday Mixer with the Kelowna Chiefs and were asked to “drop the puck” at the hockey game." Here DeHart has spent 30 years as Director of Sales and Marketing at the Ramada Hotel and Conference Centre in Kelowna. For the past 3 years her paycheque has been signed by Khalistani heavyweight Gurjit Singh Jhajj. She SURELY needs to recuse from the Kelowna Springs vote because her boss stands to gain off her positive vote.
DeHart is in a conflict of interest. mdehart@kelowna.ca
Hobnobbing with the gruesome twosome is none other than the also Khalistani conflicted Gavin 'Fuzzy' Dew. The permanently unshaven bum is B.C Conservative MLA. He's taken grease from Bir Singh Sandher multiple times. The Sandher drug lab on Black Mountain is in his riding.
Dew fancies himself the leader of B.C. Conservatives. I wouldn't vote for this conman to pick up dog shit.

Tom Dyas - 'Best mayor of Kelowna in 10 years'

Here was Tom Dyas' criticism of Colin Basran from September 2022.
“Kelowna’s taxpayers deserve to have their hard-earned money respected and used for the betterment of our community not to promote the image and personality of their Mayor.” “As Kelowna’s next Mayor I will commit to banning all City of Kelowna advertising spend not related to public safety, community engagement and consultation, or required advertising by upper levels of government,” Dyas said.

Uncle Tom then got an 'Office of the Mayor' with its own staff. A Chief of Staff, Communications, and Policy Advisors are costing taxpayers a fortune. He has someone to write all his speeches and press releases, his online presence, and to shoot videos of him.
“I am running to be Kelowna’s next Mayor because I can see so many of the critical issues facing our city failing to be addressed, not because I want to boost my own image.”

Tom Dyas ... “commit(ted) to hiring an external third-party to undertake a line-by-line audit of the City’s finances." “Over the last eight years property taxes have increased 30% and development charges have increased by tens of thousands of dollars — yet we haven’t seen drastic improvements to infrastructure or services as a result,” he said.

Mayor Tom has averaged 4.28% yearly tax increases. Basran’s last four years averaged 3.99%. The Kelowna city budget went up 16.8% from $777 million in Tom Tom’s first year to $908 million in 2025. The preliminary 2026 Budget is $1.05 billion.
Dyas acknowledged the rising unemployment figure of 7% in Kelowna, the highest it's been in three years. Unemployment then reached 11% in November 2025, (9.3% in October) which is the highest in Canada.
Kelowna's cost of living is exorbitant, with a single person needing $3,700 - $4,000/month and potentially a $75k+ annual income. This is being driven by rising rents and home prices.

Joe Simpson asks - 'You be the judge'

Kelowna resident Joe Simpson authored a masterpiece Here. He asks a question of fellow citizens. "Kelowna Springs Golf Course - Has Mayor Dyas and Council acted in the best interest of the Citizens of Kelowna? You be the Judge!"
Simpson points out "In 2021 Senior City Staff was approached by Ian Robertson requesting that the Future Land Use in the 2040 Official Community Plan be changed from Private Recreational to Industrial."

The entire concept of Kelowna Springs was to fill Robertson's pockets, something city peons accomodated. We have covered the lies of A-hole mayor Tom Dyas. "On July 26, 2022 Tom Dyas put out a pre-election statement to the public announcing that he would fight to save Kelowna Springs Golf Course if elected."

Residents have told me that they expect their next mayor to fight to save Kelowna Springs, and that’s what I will do,”

"After Mayor Dyas stated on Dec 3rd, 2024 that Denciti were unwilling vendors I spoke to City councillors and learned that there was never an offer apparently made to purchase this golf course." If that is true, the bullshitter Dyas openly lied to the press yet again.
" ... it is evident that Dyas could care less about Kelowna Springs or any other golf course where money is involved."
"Dyas and Council have failed the citizens of Kelowna miserably ..." "The Mayor and Council have the best jobs I’d say! They listen to residents and utter some smoke and mirrors comments then do the opposite with no repercussions."

Kelowna elections are October 17, 2026. The pure lying conman Tom Dyas, and his shameless suck-holing others need to go. It's rumoured Ron Cannan may be interested in the top chair. That would be a major improvement on the insulting conman Dyas.

Dyas strokes $1B Kelowna budget

Conman Dyas has taken to local press to splain his now $1B city budget.

"For the first time ever, Kelowna’s annual budget has surpassed $1 billion — a reflection of the rapid growth we are managing as one of Canada’s fastest-growing cities." The open, shameless lies from Dyas are voluminous and grossly insulting. "The 2026 property tax increase of 4.37 per cent is among the lowest in the province."
This screaming retard is far beyond the pale. His verbal diarrhea is available in stomach turning quantity here. "Budget proposals undergo multiple layers of review ..."
What is surely needed is a 'review' of an asshole conman's tenure as mayor of Kelowna.

Dictator Dyas stifles Cannan again

Ron Cannan attempted to scale back funding for Kelowna’s official outdoor homeless camp until hearing from cops. Cannan says there are often more bylaw and security guards at the site than there are homeless. With heat watching their every move, the homeless go somewhere else to be free of knob surveilance, meaning the homeless problem grows elsewhere in the city.
Cannan proposed a motion for council to hear from RCMP Supt. Chris Goebel to see if police believed the city’s investments in the outdoor sheltering site were working.
The motion was squelched by Dyas. “That’s the end of that,” Dyas squeeled. Cannan complained Dyas had “cut me off”.

The ever growing 2026 Kelowna budget provides for two more RCMP, two more bylaw officers, and four more firefighters. Cannan was involved in Dyas’ 2022 mayoral campaign, but the two haven't seen eye to eye since. The politico veteran Cannan was asked if he would be running for mayor to replace the deeply unpopular and obtuse Dyas. He said he would have an announcement to make in 2026.

Tom Dyas leadership style - AI

An AI dive from a concerned Kelowna resident sums up the autocratic mayor Tom Dyas.
1. Leadership Style and Council Communication 1) Accusations of Bullying and 'Gag Orders': Ron Cannan accused Dyas of bullying after Dyas reportedly told him to "stand down on engaging with the media" regarding a notice of motion before it was debated. This stemmed from a leaked email from the mayor's office.

2) Controversy over Spokesperson Role: Dyas said that he alone is the primary spokesperson for official city business, this to ensure consistency and accuracy. The concept was challenged by Cannan, who said councillors have a democratic right to engage with the media.

2. Financial decision making:

1) A resident criticized the decision to use an Alternative Approval Process (AAP) rather than a referendum for the borrowing of $241.3 million for the new Parkinson Recreation Centre (PRC) and other capital projects.
2) Lack of Prior Quantitative Analysis: A resident questioned why a quantitative analysis report showing an itemized list of how the $242 million total cost for the new PRC was arrived at was not completed before council voted to hold the AAP.

3) Budget and Spending: Residents argue that the council needs to rein in spending and slow rising costs. This as the city incurs its largest debt ever for the new PRC. The increase in the number of city employees is outpacing the growth rate of the city.
3. Housing and Affordability Decisions.

1) Dyas continues the same housing policies as the Basran administration, which favour increasing housing supply 'no matter what', catering to their developer friends while ignoring affordable housing.

2) Affordability: Critics point out that while 3,400 housing units were built, a huge number are small studio and 1 bedroom units with high average rental prices between $1,500 and $1,700 per month, not including utilities. Focus on supply does nothing to help families that need an affordable place to live.
4. Transparency.

1) Residents question why nearby businesses and neighbours were not consulted before decisions affecting them are made.

2) Residents accuse Dyas of ignoring transparency and accountability.

Asshole Tom Dyas lies again

In an interview with Kelowna Now on November 20, Dyas spoke of the City's 'tiny home village' program. "Almost 100 of that first 120 [individuals] have moved on. They've either moved on to supportive housing… they've gone back to family, they're getting better care. Very, very positive results.” That is more Dyas lies, pulled at whim from his ass. B.C. Housing said that 42% of participants moved on to other housing, NOT the 83% claimed by Dyas.
The tiny homes are funded by B.C. Housing and managed by third-party operators. Tom Dyas has nothing to do with it. Dyas wasn't available for an interview for the CBC story. Nothing Dyas spews can be relied upon.
City of Kelowna mouthpiece Tom Wilson said the mayor’s lies were because he was only aware of the program’s successful participants. Its all about stroking from Dyas's paid peons too. Kelowna opened 3 transitional housing sites built around clusters of tiny homes, with each project having a capacity of 60 residents. Data provided by B.C. Housing shows 297 people have been admitted to Kelowna’s first two projects. Of those, 125 people, 42%, moved on to other housing. 26% left for other reasons — including expulsion.
Kelowna is struggling with rising homelessness as housing costs soar.
